In an effort to remember things that I’ve forgotten, here’s a little ditty to mount/umount a drive on Solaris. The drive in this case happens to be a SAN.
#!/usr/bin/bash
echo -n “Shall we play a game.. enter m or um:”
act1=”m”
act2=”um”
read myax
echo
echo -n “You selected $myax”
echo
if [ "$myax" = "$act1" ]; then
mount -F ufs /dev/dsk/c7t60060160F396110072EA3A6E4BFCD811d0s6 /dassan
echo “Mounted…”
echo
echo “Running df because I am cool like that”
echo “—————————————-”
df
echo “—————————————-”
elif [ "$myax" = "$act2" ]; then
umount /dassan
echo “Running df just to check …”
echo
df
echo
else
echo “No Soup for you”

Meanwhile back in Shangri-La..
Things haven’t stopped since my mini vacation. There appears to be no end insight. Despite several papers that were due, many “handyman”/”honey dos” were completed. During my absence, the EdTech Staff collectively breathed life into several projects. It was a cool “testing” period as the winds of change start to blow throughout the Department, kudos to anyone that helped keep things under wraps.
What do you mean “free”?
I view my various music interests “eclectic.” One of the eclectic paths leads to the realm of “alternative” with a slight detour to industrial music: Ministry, the Jesus and Mary Chain, Skinny Puppy, & NIN.
I was reading a RSS feed this evening from Debian Planet and a contributor Uwe Hermann states “Nine Inch Nails album “The Slip” released under Creative Commons license.”
My immediate response was “Sha!” I’ve been intrigued with Trent Reznor’s “marketing” … genius … of late intertwining the power of the Internet with media (of course, shattering all of the conventional music industry rules). Once again, NIN has done again!
I don’t know if the trend will catch on however, the implication/notion is an incredible one, provide all album material on-line for free download ~ interesting ~.
Geek stuff
Other news, Sun has released their new version of OpenSolaris. I thought I’d give it a whirl… So as I waited for the download to complete, I dusted off the Solaris 10 installation from the shelf thinking there was a reason why I wasn’t running Solaris 10. After a 2 hour installation – no comment -. Things looked promising… Solaris 10 logo started up..
No USB
No Network
No Sound
…
NO TIME!!!!
All things considered, it was back to Debian. I may give the OpenSolaris a tour in a VM or a victim box but things are looking bleak for Solaris in the home lab. Stay tuned for first impressions..
Enough rambling for now.
